Motorsports Association Kids go-kart programme was started
pretty much the way the car racing got its start --someone
saw the need to give the kids instruction on how to properly
operate a go-kart. Plus the authorities were issuing warnings
not to run the go-karts on public roads. Robert Campbell,
thePresident of CMA at the time, stepped up to the plate and
started the programme. In the summer months of 1998 he and
Lori Adams got the initial programme off its feet along with
Mr. Smith a teacher from High School.
That
summer, approximately 100, or more youngsters went learnt
how to properly operate a go-kart. Once the foundation was
laid with their training the kids were allowed to start racing
at the track. At first the youngsters utilised Mr. Campbell's
go-karts along with members of the Association. However, soon
more and more children started to compete in their own go-karts.
The
1999 season saw the first sign of sponsorship coming from
Kirk Motors in the third International Challenge Cup and then
later on CUC assisted with T-shirts. By the years end more
than 15 kids competed regularly in the programme and Shane
Solomon was declared the first champion of the Kids Go-Kart.
Dave Thompson Jr. collected first place in two classes - motorcycles
and 100cc.
Brother and sister act Robbie Cribb Jr and Jessica Cribb were
the champions in 5 HP modified and stock respectfully.

The
2000 season was one of the most competitive on record in this
group under the watchful eye of Dave and Andrea Thompson,
and Jerry Holiness. The first order of business was to shorten
the race circuit giving the kids a more entertaining and competitive
tract. As the programme grows the Association has made more
defining rules to meet international standards as well as
make it more competitive for the kids and the spectators.
